“Time Is A Runaway”-The Alternate Routes

“Time Is A Runaway”-The Alternate Routes

This is one of those songs that I hear pretty much every day at work and it’s one of the ones I actually look forward to hearing as opposed to most of the rest of the playlist. This song is just so damn GOOD! Who are the Alternate Routes? I have no idea, but there are people online and on iTunes praising this band to high heaven.
Glassy guitars, bruised but excellent vocals, and great hooks are the order of the day. The melodies on this track are just so good, almost obvious, but they work so well with the chord changes in the way a good melody should. The verses are well done enough, but the chorus is what sells it. All he says is, “TIme is a runaway coming for you.” What the hell does that even MEAN? It doesn’t matter because it’s delivered so well that you don’t even think about it. The harmonies are on point and those glassy guitar parts coming up the left and right channels bring it all into perspective. Even if time is coming for you, so what? You can’t escape it just like everyone else, so you might as well listen to great music and have a good time in the meantime.

“Heart Shaped Glasses”-Marilyn Manson

“Heart Shaped Glasses”-Marilyn Manson

The other Man In Black is back with a new goth inspired album called “Eat Me, Drink Me” (And you can take what you will from that). “Heart Shaped Glasses” is the lead single from the album and is certainly a departure from the usual industrial sounding anthems people are used to from Manson. The track has a very dance-rock, almost Franz Ferdinand type of sound to it and Manson does very little in the way of screaming on here, he’s more of a singer this time out.

500 Songs For Kids tomorrow night+CJ’s Landing Saturday!

Tomorrow night, I’ll be playing 500 songs for a bunch of 3rd grade kids. We’ll be there all night if you want to come. Cookies and milk will be served at 10:30pm or maybe earlier if the kids’ parents object to them staying out so late.

;^P OKay, so I’m lying about that! I’m actually only playing one song (”Rain” by The Beatles, and putting my own spin on it!) but the proceeds of this gig go to help children battling cancer, kids who have lost parents, and other things. It’s going to be a great event as most of the locals here in Atlanta will be taking part! Check out www.500songsforkids.org for more info!

WHEN: ToMORROW, Thursday, May 3, 2007 9pm (I’ll be playing around 10:20!)
WHERE: Smith’s Olde Bar, Corner of Piedmont Ave, & Monroe Ave, in Midtown
INFO: 21+ only $7

Also, if you don’t have Cinco De Mayo plans, you can spend it Adam James style at CJ’S Landing! I’m playing around 10pm! THere’ll be lots of partying, possibly some beer, and I’m sure a few frat dudes bragging about eating the worm (which you can use your imagination on because I ain’t touching that one!) Cheers all! “Other Side Of The World”-KT Tunstall

“Other Side Of The World”-KT Tunstall

I’ve been hearing this song at work a lot, and it’s rare, very rare, that a song actually makes me stop what I’m doing to listen. But this song is SO beautiful that you can’t help it. It’s not remarkable in musical terms, but it doesn’t matter. It’s beautiful. Listen. KT’s voice is an instrument in a way that few singers’ voices are. Her harmonies are pure, the lyrics are simple but effective. There’s not much else I can say about it, but rave about how beautiful the song is. Download it and hear it for yourself!

500 Songs For Kids, CJ’s Landing, My old computer’s unexpected death…

Good day boys ‘n’ girls,

It is with a hint of sadness that I write this as my old computer, my faithful Mac PowerBook G4 12″ has finally died. The hard drive just couldn’t take it anymore and saw fit to stop keeping on keeping on. However, my consolation prize was/is the new Mac Book Pro that I’m now writing this on. Damn, the display on this thing is beautiful!

I’d also like to thank you guys who came out to Smith’s Olde Bar last week. You guys were a lot of fun and I enjoyed every minute of it (even when my gear decided to fail!)

I also got a lot of compliments on the “iPod+Lonliness” blog. I didn’t expect as many people to agree with me as did, so again, thank you for the kind comments!
